This is what I needed to read a young woman...thought I was the only one struggling with the legalism surrounding beauty and fashion. So thank you for sharing❤️
Motherhood has definitely changed my wardrobe and I’m learning that it’s okay to let go of the expectations and just be ‘me’. Appreciate your perspective on how out outward appearance can reflect the inner workings of our hearts ❤️
I’m in the process of culling through my wardrobe as well with a goal of a small capsule wardrobe of clothes I feel great in in this season. Also, I love what you said about ‘tending to what we have and asking God to multiply it’— you captured my goal and prayer for this year 💗.
Glad I'm not the only one on this journey! Now if i could follow through and actually donate / get rid of the items that no longer serve the season I'm in or the woman i'm becoming! lol. I feel like i think it, but lack execution because it feels so final.
I’m in this stage too, turning 30 this year and expecting my 4th child. It’s laundry day today so I pulled something out of the back of the closet that I used to wear a lot back in the college days and honestly felt like I was dressing up in a costume of my old self. I have an amazing group of Christian mom friends, and truly I love them, but I feel like frumpiness is a little bit of a virtue in our culture too. I’m getting my first haircut in 10 years on Monday… maybe I need to peruse Pinterest myself and figure out what it is that I want to actually wear in this season.
At 53 I still don’t know who I am, what I love, what makes me comfortable. Being raised with strict dress rules through church legalism crushes creativity and individuality -at least it did for me. I understand what you’re going thru. Last year I pierced my ears. This year I chopped my hair off. Next is a small tattoo to remind me I am enough. I desire to be elegant and relaxed - I liked your fashion board. I think I shall work on one!!
Yes, this resonates with me and its truly a lifelong journey as our personal style evolves and shifts with seasons and age. Creating a Pinterest board of clothing and outfits that inspire you is so helpful.
I'm about to enter my second post partum season and I really resonated with so much of this. I'm already dreading figuring out yet another body change and yet I am so so grateful to be mom to my little humans and celebrate a body that may not be perfect but God clearly used to nurture children both in and out the womb. I used to LOVE dressing up and wearing heels and dressing "trendy" and now my needs and wants have changed and I'm starting to truly embrace what I want to dress in and not comparing it to anybody else... especially not my "past self." this was so encouraging!!
I wore heels on Christmas to my in-laws church since dressing up is a thing in Slavic churches and I hadn't worn heels probably like a year before then - felt so odd and uncomfortable. Definitely not in my heels season and I'm embracing that this is okay.
In a very similar season of trying to figure out what my style is and combing through years worth of looks on Pinterest that I'ved saved and done absolutely nothing else with. I teach in a pretty laid back environment but live in an area that, when we go out, I always look a little out of place and unpolished. But I also have a toddler, so there's a lot of food and dirt and playing and snuggling involved. Excited to follow along on your journey!
Yes, it's a challenge to dress as a toddler / baby mom (all my shirts are stained on my left shoulder daily because my 10 month old thinks that's his napkin lol). But also agree that at times how i currently dress feels unpolished in some gatherings and that's the most uncomfortable feeling.
I've been trying to edit my wardrobe pinterest board to align more with where i want to go vs what i pinned there over the years that no longer aligns. Need to pull some of those images into a collage on canva tho for easier reference / identify more of a style or trend of the "look" I'm going for.
I love the look of classic/old money but it doesn't feel like me, and I don't know if it's because it truly isn't me, or if I've just not given it a fair chance because of my limited mindsets on personal style. But I definitely find I lean more towards classics that may seem boring, but work for me in the season I'm in.

This post came across my feed today and it was helpful for me! I think you'll enjoy it too: https://open.substack.com/pub/bridgetcarroll/p/how-i-refound-my-personal-style?r=9iosb&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
